Caer Ilias is a grey stone castle in a forest clearing, held for the Baron of Rauinir. Its garrison and household number some 120.
Curtain walls, corner towers and a gatehouse enclose stables, barracks, a smithy and a few cottages; more cottages stand just outside the walls. A road leads south from the gate through the forest.
The castle watches the inland forest roads; its banners are the Baron's promise that the woods are held.
