Conversion from other RPGs to Amar

You can convert characters and monsters from other Role-Playing Games to the Amar RPG by following the simple guidelines below.

Characteristics/attributes with 3D6 range

The typical 3D6 (3-18) range for characteristics or attributes are quite unrealistic. It is fairly easy to become two or three times better in an attribute like Strength or Coordination. An average man could bench press around 50kg while the world record is more than 5 times that. The Amar RPG offers a far more realistic range for both attributes and skills than most other RPGs.

The following table gives a rough conversion between a 3D6 range and the Amar RPG range for attributes.

Characteristics to Amar RPG attributes scores
3D6 score Amar equivalent
1-4 1
5-8 2
9-11 3
12 4
13 5
14 6
15 7
16 8
17 10
18 13
19 16

Pathfinder and (A)D&D

Characteristics conversion to Amar attributes are given below. Some are rather rough comparisons rather than strict equivalents. There is no Charisma attribute in the Amar RPG as all social settings are expected to be roleplayed rather than "diced". Also, there is no equivalent to Amar's Magical Aptitud in these RPGs.

Characteristics and Attributes
Characteristic Amar Attribute
Strength Strength
Constitution Endurance
Dexterity Coordination
Intelligence Learning (similar)
Wisdom Awareness (rough comparison)

The main skills for a given character class would be at: Character level or monster Hit Dice (HD) plus 2.

A 8th level Fighter would typically have 10 in major weapon skills and 10 in Dodge. A 7th level Ranger would have 9 in archery skill(s), Survival lore, Tracking and such. A 5th level Thief would have 7 in skills like Move Quietly, Hide, Tumble, Dodge and Sleight. Secondary skills would typically be 2 less - such as a Thief's fighting skills, a Ranger's or Priest's mellee skills and Fighter's missile skills.

Runequest (and similar RPGs)

Characteristics conversion to Amar attributes are given below. There is no Charisma or Appearance attribute in the Amar RPG as all social settings are expected to be roleplayed rather than "diced". Runequest and similar RPGs often lack the Awareness attribute.

Characteristics and Attributes
Characteristic Amar Attribute
Strength Strength
Constitution Endurance
Dexterity Coordination
Intelligence Learning (similar)
Power Magical Aptitude

Skills are easily converted from these types of D100 RPGs: You take the skill score, divide by ten (round up) and add two. For weapon skills, use the highest of the attack and parry skills. A character with 85% attack and 75% parry in heavy mace would get a 12 in the heavy mace skill in Amar. The "Defence" in Runequest is converted to Dodge in Amar by dividing the Defence by 2.5 (round up).
